oval-serving-platter-mimbreno-turkey-white-maroon-mimbreno
Oval Serving Platter - Mimbreno Turkey Maroon & White

The Mimbreno oval serving platter in maroon and white features the turkey motif in the original 1937 colorway. The turkey was both a practical and ceremonial animal for the Mimbres people. Depicted in the bold geometric style of Mimbres ceramic art, the turkey motif captures the bird with the characteristic fanned tail and patterned body that make it immediately identifiable. The maroon and white palette is the one Mary Colter chose for the Fred Harvey Company's Super Chief dining cars, drawn directly from the palette of ancient Mimbres pottery. Designed as an individual side platter (rather than as a large serving platter), the motif reads with the full presence of the Mimbres tradition.
